Earn £120 for quitting smoking
Adults who live in social housing can earn up to £120 (paid in non-cashable vouchers) for quitting smoking.
Vouchers are awarded at the initial appointment, and at 4- and 12-weeks smoke free with CO verification.
The incentive runs from Thursday 29th July 2025 in our face-to-face clinics.
As a service, we are committed to reducing health inequalities across County Durham. Research shows that 1 in 3 people in social housing smoke, and as a result, they are disproportionately impacted by health and financial inequalities caused by smoking (ASH-Housing-LIN-Smoking-and-Social-Housing-May-2022.pdf).
Smokefree County Durham are working hard to reach as many people as possible through our 12-week support programme with Specialist Practitioners and offering financial incentives. We have been funded to pilot a financial incentive for people who live in social housing, where they can earn up to £120 for quitting smoking. This will be in the form of vouchers, increasing in amounts as the individual progresses throughout their quit journey. They will be rewarded at their initial appointment, 4 weeks smoke free, and 12 weeks quit.
Due to new funding our service has recently received, specifically to further support this target group, the incentive will be available for people who are currently living in social housing from 29th July 2025.
Who is eligible?
Adult tenants, residents, and household members of social housing.
Who isn’t eligible?
Tenants renting from a private landlord.
People who own or pay a mortgage on their main residence, including ex-council properties.

How can I access the incentive?
Please call us on 0800 772 0565, or sign up for support via our website and our team then will then give you a call. Please let us know at this point if you believe you are eligible for the incentive, and our team will be happy to discuss accessing this alongside our support. They may ask you which housing association your home is registered with.
How will I receive my vouchers and where can I use them?
One4all gift vouchers can be used at several retailors (click this link for more information: One4all Multi-Store Gift Cards – Thousands of choices with one gift card).
You will receive a £20 voucher after you’ve attended your first appointment, a £40 voucher for your successful 4 week quit, and a £60 voucher at your final appointment when you successfully reach 12 weeks smoke free.
We will post physical vouchers out to you when you reach these milestones.

Can I claim the offer more than once?
No, this is a one-time incentive per client. However, if you need stop smoking support at any time then we’re here to support you with our usual free service that includes 1-1 support, free nicotine replacement therapy and access to legal vapes. You can receive our support again even if you have been with us before!
Can I rearrange my 4/12week appointments if needed, to receive the vouchers?

Will my quit be CO verified?
This incentive is currently available for people who live in social housing and access one of our face-to-face clinics in a GP surgery or community venue. In all our face-to-face clinics, your specialist practitioner will ask you to exhale into a CO monitor at appointments to verify your smokefree journey. Your quit will need to be CO verified (6ppm or less) at your 4- and 12-week appointments to receive the vouchers.
I'm under 18, can I access the incentive scheme?
Unfortunately, only people over the age of 18 are eligible for this incentive. However, we can still support anyone over the age of 12 in County Durham with our 12-week specialist support programme.
